Embedded Systems & IoT

Smart devices with firmware you can rely on.

We write the software that runs inside devices, known as firmware, and connect those devices to sensors, apps and online systems so they can share data.

Temperature, leaks or motion, measured around the clock.

Software on the device filters readings and spots problems.

A gateway sends readings to the cloud and takes updates back.

The right person gets an alert on their phone.

What you get
01Dependable firmwareDevice software that starts reliably, handles faults and can be updated.
02Connected devicesWi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular or long-range radio, chosen to suit the setting.
03Data you can useReadings delivered to a dashboard, app or your own business systems.

How we deliver

Four stages, each ending with something you can see and review before the next one starts.

01

Scope

We define what the device must sense, decide and report, and how it connects.

02

Architect

We choose the processor, radio and software structure to fit power and cost.

03

Develop

We write and test firmware on real hardware, alongside any app or cloud work.

04

Deploy

We support first installations, monitor devices and release updates.

Drive Pulse

Fleet operators find out about vehicle faults only when a driver reports them or the vehicle is in the workshop.

IoT and fleet management: remote vehicle diagnostics

What we built

  • A device and platform that connect to each vehicle's on-board diagnostics (OBD) port
  • Engine data and fault codes read remotely
  • One dashboard for the whole fleet
What it changed

Fleet managers track vehicle health from one dashboard and plan maintenance before a breakdown.

Also delivered: Smart Hail Guard, AI hail detection on field devices, and Ensemble Smart Lighting, lighting control with the AI running on the device.

Delivered by Hoki and its engineering partners. Product and client names belong to their owners.

Where this applies

The same engineering, shaped by the rules and realities of each sector.

Manufacturing

Connecting machines and sensors so output and faults are visible in real time.

Energy and utilities

Smart meters and remote monitoring for sites that are hard to reach.

Logistics and supply chain

Tracking location and condition of goods, vehicles and cold storage.

Healthcare

Connected monitoring devices with careful handling of patient data.

Retail and e-commerce

In-store sensors for footfall, stock levels and equipment health.

Public sector and education

Building sensors for energy use, air quality and room occupancy.

Frequently asked questions

How is the cost of an IoT project set?

It depends on the device, the number of units and how much app or cloud work is involved. We scope the project after a discovery discussion and usually suggest starting at one site before a wider rollout.

Can you connect devices to our existing systems?

Yes. We can send device data to your current software, databases or reporting tools, as long as they offer a way to receive it, such as an API.

How do you keep connected devices secure?

We use encrypted connections, secure start-up, unique device credentials and signed updates, and we review security as part of each release.

Who looks after the devices once installed?

We offer ongoing support, monitoring and firmware updates under an agreed arrangement, or we can hand everything over to your own team.
