Graduated autonomy

You decide how much it does on its own.

POLARIS IQ does not need approval for everything, and it does not act without limits. You set the level of autonomy for each process and raise it step by step as results are proven.

Pick one process, such as pump maintenance, and name its owner.

Agree the budget, policy and approver that bound what runs alone.

Start with recommendations, or actions prepared for approval.

Allow more autonomy where results hold up. Lower it at any time.

What you get
01Set per processA payment hold and a maintenance plan can run at different levels in one business.
02Limits you defineFinancial, operational and organisational limits decide what may run without a person.
03Raised graduallyStart with recommendations only, then allow more as results are measured and reviewed.

How we deliver

Four stages, each ending with something you can see and review before the next one starts.

01

Choose

Pick a process and agree who owns it, what a good result looks like and which risks matter.

02

Set limits

Define budgets, policy thresholds and approvers. These decide what may run without a person.

03

Start low

Begin with recommendations or prepared actions that people approve, and review each trace.

04

Raise

Where results hold up, allow more autonomy for that process. Lower it again at any time.

Pump maintenance with the right level of autonomy

Vibration on a water utility's pump has been rising for several days, and a heatwave is forecast for the weekend. The team must decide how much the system may do without asking.

A first phase could cover

We agree scope with you before work starts. For this kind of request, a first phase usually covers:

  • Alerts on rising vibration sent to the operations team as soon as they appear
  • A repair plan prepared for approval, because it needs the operations manager
  • Routine updates to crew schedules allowed to run within agreed limits

A typical project, described to show the shape of the work. It is not a specific client.

Where this applies

The same engineering, shaped by the rules and realities of each sector.

Energy and utilities

Alerts run on their own while repairs that affect supply wait for a manager.

Financial services

Holds on suspicious transfers prepared for a fraud lead, never released alone.

Healthcare

Staffing and bed changes prepared for the duty manager to approve.

Manufacturing

Schedule updates within limits, with shift changes sent for approval.

Logistics and supply chain

Routine delivery updates run alone, while carrier changes need sign-off.

Retail and e-commerce

Stock alerts run on their own, while price changes stay with a person.

Frequently asked questions

Who decides the level of autonomy?

You do. The level is set by your organisation for each process, based on its risk, its value and how much confidence you have in the results so far.

Can we start with recommendations only?

Yes, and many businesses do. POLARIS IQ recommends and explains, and your people decide and act. You can allow more later for the processes where results hold up.

What happens when a case falls outside the limits?

Guardrails make it stop, escalate or ask a person. The case is passed to the right approver with the evidence, rather than run on a best guess.

Will it act without anyone knowing?

No. Every action is recorded with its evidence, approvals and outcome, and observability shows what agents are doing across your systems.
